McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, South Carolina 29621864-224-4343 OBITUARY ELIZABETH SIMPSON April 9, 1927 - May 19, 2011ANDERSON, SCMary Elizabeth Duffell Simpson, age 84, of 4507 Lanier Avenue, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville.Born in Madison County, GA on April 9, 1927, Mrs. Simpson was a daughter of the late Claude Walker Duffell and Willie Mae Graham Duffell. She retired from Rocky River Mill in Calhoun Falls, SC. She was a very caring, compassionate and loving person. Mrs. Simpson was a long-time member of Fellowship Wesleyan Church in Iva, a Sunday School teacher and member of the Wesleyan Fellowship of Women. She was presently attending Piedmont Wesleyan Church.Survivors include her son, Charles 'Sonny' Bruce of Greenwood; daughters, Inez Bruce of Iva, Jane Hanvey and her husband, Ed of Greenwood and Dianne Craft and her husband, Milton of Piedmont; sister, Mattie Simpson of Iva; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her children, she raised two grandchildren in her home, Alethea Gurley Phillips of Greenwood and Nancy Gurley Ramey of Honea Path. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charlie W. Bruce and second husband, George Thomas Simpson; daughter, Charlotte B. Terry; grandson, Shannon Gurley; brother, Ed Duffell and sister, Norma Davis.The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Fellowship Wesleyan Church of Iva officiated by the Reverend Chet Rowan and Reverend Stephen Love. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
