Mary Ellen Bolt Smith, age 92, formerly of Anderson, passed away at her residence at Eden Terrace in Spartanburg on Monday, February 22, 2016. Born in Anderson, SC on November 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Wiley Thomas Bolt and the late Mary Ellen Lindsey Bolt. For sixty years she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Earl Smith who died in 2001. Mrs. Smith devoted her life to her family and was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Anderson. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Anderson Girls' High School. Survivors include a son, Tom Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Spartanburg; a daughter, Linda Johnson and her husband, Rev. Kenneth Johnson of Anderson; also surviving are six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Earl, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlton, Joe, Oliver, Paul, and Wiley Bolt. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Regency Hospice of Greenville and Eden Terrace of Spartanburg, for the loving care they provided Mrs. Smith during her residency. A Graveside Service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary Ellen Smith will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 10 a.m. at New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, with Mr. Tom Smith and Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. The family will be at the residence of Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson, 1128 Jackson Street, Anderson, and will receive friends at New Silver Brook Cemetery following the service.
