Mary Frances Powell Franklin of Anderson, SC, age 96, and wife of the late Harry A. Franklin, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Hartwell, GA, on February 4, 1920, she was the third child and eldest daughter of the late Lloyd Benson Powell and the late Lessie Bailey Powell. A homemaker, her priorities were her faith, her family, and her church. Known for her daily devotion to her faith, she was a spiritual guide, encourager, and confidant for many, and a respected teacher and women's leader at Oakwood Baptist Church, Anderson, SC, Connie Maxwell Baptist Church, Greenwood, SC and New Prospect Baptist Church, Anderson, SC. She is survived by her sons, Richard H. Franklin and wife Portia of Anderson, SC, and Ben R. Franklin of Asheville, NC; her daughters, DeAnne Ellis and husband Wayne of Anderson, SC, and Joy Foster and husband Bobby of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren, Kimberly Coker, Thad Franklin, Chris Franklin, Jennifer Franklin, Heather Acevedo Rainey, and Josh Acevedo; eleven great-grandchildren, Lauren Elrod Barnes, Alison Elrod, Zachary Coker, Carter and Blaine Albertson, Hampton and Hudson Rainey, Victoria and Dylan Franklin, and Sophie and Miles Primm; and four great-great grandchildren, Aubrey and Aria Barnes, Noah Blackston, and Grant Acevedo; sisters Clara Cannon and Peggy Branyon of Anderson, SC , and Jo Beth McKee of Greensboro, NC. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson John Michael White, and brothers Ralph and Fred Powell, and sisters Hazel Loudermilk and Willene Temples. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the in-home caregivers who provided her with loving and devoted care for five and a half years. A memorial service will be on Sunday May 22 at 3:00 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church and officiated by the Reverends Randy Creamer and Lawrence Webb of Anderson, SC. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of New Prospect on Sunday the 22nd from 1:30-2:45pm preceding the memorial service.
