Mary Alice Hanvey Gambrell, age 87, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her home.

Born July 20, 1938, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Lee Hanvey and Mary Etta Dutton Hanvey. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jimmy "Joe" Garland Bryant; daughter, Sandra Blanton; brothers, Bobby Hanvey and Ray Hanvey; and sisters, Ann Burdette, Elizabeth Brown, and Frances Evans.

Mary loved gospel music, reading her Bible, fishing and gardening. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She also had a heart for children and loved them all, family or not. She was a great cook and the master of fried apple pies and banana "puddin." More than anything, Mary loved her family and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Donnie Nicholson (Ladella), Joey Bryant, Russell Bryant (Lilia), and Nathan Gambrell; brother, Doyle Hanvey; half-sister, Mary Wardlaw; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 12:00-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Pastor Robbie Parris officiating. Burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
