Mary Lou Smith, age 77, of Anderson, SC, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born September 11, 1946, in Gassaway, WV, she was a daughter of the late William E. Wood and the late Mary B. Wyatt Wood. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William E. Wood and John Wood.

Mary was a dedicated Christian, wife and mother. She followed her husband Lloyd through a military career that encompassed travels from Brunswick, Ga, Spain, Maine, California and Oregon. In 1990, they finally settled in Anderson, SC. Mary was a faithful member of Sanctuary of Praise Church. Proverbs teaches the characteristics of a virtuous woman through scripture. Mary fulfilled all six of those descriptions; devoted to being a wife and homemaker, her strong faith, her effectiveness as a mother, her ability to live and teach God's work, and her excellence as a person. She was loving and kind to everyone and had the sweetest disposition. Because of her, we all cried a little less, smiled a lot more, and laughed harder.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lloyd W. Smith; daughter, Cherie L. Dutton (Greg); son, Anthony W. Smith; sister, Hazel Lockhart; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, June 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sanctuary of Praise Church, 518 Stone Drive, Anderson, SC, with Reverend Russell Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Generostee ARP Church Cemetery, Iva, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC
