Mary Amelia Shuler McCord, age 74, of 129 Life Style Lane, entered into the Church Triumphant on Sunday, May 21, 2017, upon her death at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Orangeburg County, SC on June 4, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Frank Harlan Shuler, Sr. and the late Mary Bonds Workman Shuler. Mrs. McCord attended Providence and Holly Hills Schools, and was a 1964 graduate of Winthrop College. While at Winthrop, she was active in various campus activities including PHI UPSILON OMICRON, Who's Who, Sophomore Advisor to the Wesley Foundation, and Winthrop Christian Association. She married Hugh C. McCord, Jr. upon graduation from Winthrop, and moved to Memphis, TN where she worked in the dietary department at Methodist Hospital. They moved to Fort Hood, TX where their son, Thad was born. Two years later, daughter Beth was born in Charleston, SC where they were living at the time. In 1974 the family moved to Anderson from Butner, NC. She was very active in the 4-H Club. She was a member of the Junior League Sustainers and served on the Board of Woman's Club of Anderson, and worked with several other community organizations. Mrs. McCord is an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, was active in Sunday School and a member of Presbyterian Women Joanna Circle. Left to carry on her legacy are her loving and devoted husband of fifty-two years, Dr. Hugh C. McCord, Jr., MD; a son, Thad S. McCord and his wife, Leanna of Greer; a daughter, Beth Ginn and her husband, Andy, of Anderson; five grandchildren, Kelly, Douglas, and Angus McCord, and Andrew and Katherine Ginn; a brother Frank Shuler and his wife, Sue, of Kingsport, TN; a sister Jean S. Felkel and her husband, Chuck, of Lexington, SC; also surviving are many nieces and nephews who loved their Mimi dearly. Following a private committal at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, there will be a Memorial Service held at 1 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 25, 2017, with Reverend Dr. David J. Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
