Mary Ellen Forrester Mullinax, age 89, of Anderson, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Born February 22, 1932 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Carlton Forrester and Mamie Sanders Forrester Hilley. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Girls High and in her early years, briefly worked at Appleton Mill. For many years, she helped her husband Doot run his many businesses including Mullinax Amoco Service Station, rental properties, real estate and beach condo partnerships. She loved to cook and serve others and especially enjoyed entertaining her many family and friends at their home. A "Nana Breakfast" was enjoyed by her children and grandchildren for many years. She also loved animals and that love of cooking was extended to stray kittens that found their way to her house - at one time she was fixing eggs and grits in the morning for over 20 cats! She was always interested in what was happening in Anderson and around the world and was waiting every morning to go out to get the newspaper as soon as it was delivered - rain or shine! Mary Ellen was a lifelong member of Oakwood Baptist Church. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother and left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Clyde William "Doot" Mullinax; sons, Randy Mullinax (Donna) and Brad Mullinax (Kim) both of Anderson; sister, Beatrice Whitfield of Anderson; and two grandchildren, Lisa Olmstead (Andrew) and their children, Rachel, Emily, and John, and Justin Mullinax (Brittany) and their children, Scottlyn, Walker, and Callie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Carlton Forrester; and sister, Frances Adams. A cryptside service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Guy Roberts officiating. The family will visit with family and friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church, 304 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, SC 29625 and Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
