Mary Olene Sanders Vickery, age 84, of 700 Camellia Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at her residence with her beloved family by her side. Born on December 3, 1933, in Newry, SC, she was the daughter of the late Edward "Ed" Sanders and the late Elma Woods Sanders. For forty-eight years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Leonard C. Vickery, Sr. of the residence. Mrs. Vickery was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church. She was employed at Singer for fifteen years, and then worked for Westinghouse, retiring after twenty years of employment there. She was proud of her work and many accomplishments. Mrs. Vickery continued working with her husband at his company, Anderson Sewing Center. At the age of eighty, they closed the store and retired. In addition to her husband, Leonard, Mary is survived by two sons, Blake Freeman (Becky) and Dr. Lawson Freeman (Leigh), both of Anderson; two daughters, Joan Freeman Crisp (Frankie) of Anderson, and Darlene Freeman Nichols (Jerry) of Simpsonville; three step sons, Leonard C. Vickery, Jr. (Linda) of Anderson, David S. Vickery (Kathy) of Williamston, and Michael T. Vickery (Cheryl) Williamston; a step daughter, Patty V. Stewart (Joey) of Pelzer; two sisters, Bernice Sanders Logan of Anderson, and Rosa Sanders Price of Seneca; two brothers, Ross Sanders (Linda) of Anderson, and Jerry Sanders of Seneca; also surviving are twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Cathy, and a brother, Charles Sanders. The family will be at the home of Joan and Frankie Crisp, 321 Glenn Street, Anderson, SC 29625, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Mary O. Vickery will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Steve Hurte and Rev. Claude Dykes officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
