Mary Ballenger Putman, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025. She was a devoted Christian and churchgoer her entire life and deeply loved her husband and children. A long-time resident of Anderson, SC, she will be missed by many friends there and by her church family at New Prospect Baptist Church.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Flora Ballenger, her husband, Allen "Bud" Putman and her brother, Edward "Eddie" Ballenger.

She is survived by her eldest son, Joseph "Joe" Putman and his wife, Felicia of Anderson, SC; youngest son, Jerry Putman and his wife, Teresa of Orangeburg, SC; her brother, William "Bill" Ballenger and his wife, Kay of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Sue, wife of her brother, Edward (deceased), of Zanesville, OH; grandchild, Eryn Malone of Easley, SC and great grandchildren, Arieanna, Jacob and Zoey. She is also survived by Geoff "Jeff" Fisher of Anderson, SC, who lived briefly with the family, his wife, Joy and their two sons, Adam Fisher and Blake Fisher, wife, Katie.

Mary was thrust into the role of parenting her teenage brother, Edward, when her parents died at an early age and also opened her home to Geoff Fisher when he was injured in an automobile accident. Eddie remained close to Mary and Bud his entire life and Geoff became like a son to them. The many sacrifices she made for her husband and loved ones will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bobby Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
