THACKSTON JANUARY 9, 1929 - MAY 25, 2012 DOUGLAS, GA Mary Elizabeth Mayfield Thackston, age 83, wife of the late Joseph Marshall Thackston, passed away on May 25, 2012 at the Shady Acres Nursing Home, Douglas GA. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Crayton Mayfield and Gertrude Williams Mayfield. She grew up in Anderson, SC and was a graduate of Girls High. After her husband's military career they moved to Atlanta where she was a bookkeeper for Fulton County, GA., for many years. She was a member of the Perkerson Baptist Church in Atlanta Ga. She is survived by a son, Greg Thackston and his wife, Dari of Douglas, GA., sisters; Lillian Reed of Anderson, SC., Helen Duncan of Flowery Branch, GA., and JoAnn Buckhaulter of Bainbridge, GA. In addition to her parents and husband she is predeceased by her brother; Bud Mayfield, sisters; Hazel Cain and Jeannette Brooks. A Funeral Service will be held Monday May 28, 2012 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Dickson officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday May 28, 2012 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm before the service.
