MARY DAVID THORNTON Mary David Thornton, age 98, of 216 Bedford Forest Avenue, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the residence. Born in Starr on March 6, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Grady David and the late Leola Holmes David. Mrs. Thornton was retired from LaFrance Mills, and was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church. Mary is survived by a grandson, Edward Thornton Garrett and his wife Rhonda, of Anderson, and 2 great-granddaughters, Holly Elizabeth Garrett and Meredith Robbins Garrett, both of Anderson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Victor Thornton; 2 daughters, Francis 'Bunnie' Thornton and Opal T. Riddle; a great-great granddaughter, Julia Caroline Garrett; and 9 brothers and sisters. A private Graveside Service honoring the life of Mrs. Mary Thornton will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at 3 pm, at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating.
