Mary Joan Smith Vickery, age 87, of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021. She was born December 29, 1933, in Anderson, and was the daughter of the late Voyd Lee Smith and Geneva Moore Smith. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Mary Lou Smith. Jo worked at Anderson Independent Mail for 15 years and LaFrance Industries for 14 years. She was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church for 65 years where she taught Sunday School in the pre-school department for over 50 years. Jo was very creative and artistic and enjoyed making ceramic figurines, sewing, needle work, and cooking. She loved reading stories to her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles Vickery; one daughter, Charlene Wooten; two grandchildren, Seth Wooten and Sally Burts; two brothers, Michael Smith (Karen) and Tony Smith; and 5 great grandchildren. A cryptside service will be held Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 10:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Matthew Danuser officiating. The family will speak with guests immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pope Drive Baptist Church, 2510 Pope Dr., Anderson, SC 29625. The family will be at their respective homes.
