MATTIE SHIRLEY July 4, 1911 - May 18, 2006ANDERSON, SCMrs. Mattie Lou Stewart Shirley, age 94, wife of the late James Lewis 'Luke' Shirley, formerly of 319 Whitehall Road, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Brookside Living Center in Anderson.Born in Anderson County, SC on July 4, 1911, Mrs. Shirley was a daughter of the late J. T. 'Bub' Stewart and Mamie Lou Chastain Stewart. She was retired from Abney Mills (Ladlassie Mill) . She was a faithful member of River Street Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class for as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Shirley is survived by a daughter, Betty Lou Hanvey and her husband, William; a son, James Arthur (Hot Dog) Shirley and his wife, Betty of Anderson; three grandchildren, Margaret Brady and her husband, Chris of Starr, SC, Russ Hanvey of Columbia, SC and Chris Shirley and his wife, Crystal of Anderson; six great-grandchildren, Marissa and Blake Brady, Erica and Hannah Shirley and Brook and Karlee Hanvey. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Tommy, Calvin, Rufus, Olin and Claude Stewart; and sisters, Dessie Mae Carlton, Rosa Lee Nichols, Gladys Nichols, Myrtis Gambrell and Geneva Stewart. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2:00 pm at River Street Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Bob Burriss and Reverend Phil McAlister. Burial will follow in Old Silverbrook Cemetery.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home of a granddaughter, Margaret Brady, 1021 Monroe White Road, (off Flat Rock Road), Starr, SC.Flowers are optional.
