Maxine Loudermilk Smalley, age 89, formerly of Chipwood Drive, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Mt. Airy, GA, on July 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Forrest Loudermilk and the late Mary Lee Walker Loudermilk. She retired from Riverside Mill with over 20 years of service. She was an avid reader and quilter. Maxine was a member of River Street Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended Sunday school and was a nursery worker. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Taylor and her husband Jim, of Anderson, SC; a granddaughter, Kelley Johnson and her husband Ronnie, of Honea Path, SC; three great-granddaughters, Mary Lee, Katie and Samantha; a sister, Effie Lee Broom, of Charleston, SC; nieces and nephews, Brenda Smith and her husband, Don, Janet Schumann and her husband, Klaus, Forrest Broom, Jim Saraske, and Nancy Whitley; and a number of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Thurston "Judd" Rogers and her second husband, James Alford Smalley. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Stewart Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 25, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
