MAXWELL LEE POWELL March 12, 1916 - September 11, 2008ANDERSON, SCMr. Maxwell Lee 'Daddy Mack' Powell, age 92 of 311 B Street passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Williamston, SC on March 12, 1916, Mr. Powell was a son of the late Bert & Mamie Carithers Powell. He was a Sergeant in the US Army during World War II and during his service to our country he was an Army Squad Leader who served in the 309th Infantry Division. He proudly served in the European Theatre, and because of his efforts he was awarded the good conduct medal, the victory medal, and three bronze service stars. Mr. Powell was retired and had formerly worked for the Anderson Mill, Fluor-Daniel, and Duke Power. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid gardener.Survivors include his daughter, Wendell Bannister and her husband, Dean of Belton and Sherie Powell of the home; two granddaughters, Lisa Shaw and her husband, Keith and Dawn Cothran and her husband, Danny, all of Belton; three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Katelyn Cothran and Blake Shaw.In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell E. Dunn Powell; his three brothers, Ralph Odis Powell, William 'Bill' Powell, and Bert Guyton Powell; and his two sisters, Kathleen P. Spearman and Ivera P. Hart Gilmer.A Graveside Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Robert Beaver.
