Meriel Margaret Prater Fortescue, age 82, of Anderson, SC, loving wife to the late Paul Ray Fortescue, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Condor Health Anderson. Born January 11, 1940, in Batesburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late O. Sumter Prater and Louella Koon Prater. Meriel enjoyed playing cards and bingo with family, friends and staff at Condor Health in Anderson. Most of all, she loved visits from her family which she treasured. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Tiller of Iva, SC; brother-in-law, Johnny Fortescue of Abbeville, SC; 13 nephews; and 16 nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Edward Prater; and sister, Barbara Ann Prater. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of her sister-in-law, Louise Tiller. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Affinity Hospice, 115 Whitehall Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.
