Effie Merle Crook Lewis, age 92, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at NHC Healthcare Anderson.

Born April 30, 1931, in Hartwell, GA, she was a daughter of the late Albert Omer Crook and Eva Cawthon Crook. She was married to the late Carlton Lewis. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby C. Lewis; son-in-law, Joe Wells; and siblings, Frank Crook, Lucille Gaddis, Dennis Crook, Gladys Ethridge, Owen Crook, Joe Crook, Jack Crook, Vernell Hayes, Lillian Johnson, Carol Walls, and J.C. Crook.

Merle retired from Clark Schwebel. She was affectionately known by many as "Grandma Merle" or "Mama Merle". She was a loving, kind lady with a great sense of humor who never met a stranger. She was an amazing cook and loved hummingbirds. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth McDoyle Lewis, Stephanie Lewis Wells, and Wesley Brian Lewis (Lori); grandchildren, Brandon Lewis, Blake Lewis, Scotty Lewis, Adam Lewis, Shane Lewis, Haley Moss, Brooke Thompson, Kayla Wells Pace, and Brent Lewis; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Eureka Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Joe Harvell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 pm.
