IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mia
Bryant
May 31, 1968 – August 15, 2025
Melena "Mia" Bannister Bryant, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by her family on August 15, 2025. She was born on May 31, 1968, in Anderson, South Carolina, to Dennis Bannister and Barbara Fields Bannister.
Melena attended Amarillo College and later West Texas State University, where she shined not only in her studies but also as a gifted and celebrated feature twirler. During her sophomore year, she achieved one of her greatest honors—winning Miss Majorette of America at the national competition held at Notre Dame. She also went on to place in the Top 15 at the Miss Texas Pageant, an achievement that reflected her grace, poise, and beauty.
Her talents and drive led her to a career as both a professional model and a flight attendant, roles that allowed her to see the world and connect with people from all walks of life.
Throughout her life, she embraced every role she was given with grace, joy, and dedication. She was a selfless stay-at-home mom, pouring her heart into raising her children. Some of her proudest moments were watching her son, Martin, achieve his dream of becoming a dentist, and her daughter, Berkley, earn the title of Miss Volunteer America.
Her family was her greatest treasure, and becoming "Lolli" to her grandchildren, Banks and Baylor, brought her endless joy and purpose. She cherished every hug, giggle, and milestone they shared.
Melena was preceded in death by her parents, and her mother-in-law, the late Judy Bryant. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Ron Bryant; her children, Martin Bryant (Caroline) and Berkley Bryant; grandchildren, Banks and Baylor Bryant; her siblings, Denise Holley (the late Leon), Hope Campbell (John), Faith McDonald (Eddie), Skip Bannister (Ashley); her father-in-law Ronald Bryant, her very special cousin Tandy, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She will be remembered for her warmth and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and in the family she loved so deeply.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10:00-11:30 am at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Jan Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
