She would go on to live in Osaka, Japan and would meet her future husband, the late Charles Wayne Fleming while he was stationed in Japan for military service during the Korean Conflict. Mihoko immigrated to the United States in 1958 and would soon be granted US citizenship which she was always very proud of. She lived in California, Maryland, Germany, and Texas before finally settling in Anderson, South Carolina. Mihoko converted to Christianity in 1967 which was something she was so very thankful for. She was self-taught in English and retained fluency in Japanese throughout her life. Kay had three children, Jimmy, Amy who is deceased, and Mary Ann and in turn would be the grandmother of seven grandchildren. On January 5, 1988, Mihoko married Ken Hyatt and they were together until her passing. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Hyatt, two children, Jimmy Lee Fleming and Mary Ann Hopkins, a sister and niece in Japan, Chisako Morioka and Mari Kitaura, and seven grandchildren, Alexander Fleming, Jeffrey Hopkins, Jr., Jamison Hopkins, Anley Hopkins, Elizabeth Fleming, Victoria Fleming, and Olivia Fleming. In her final days she was cared for by her family and the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House. In accordance with her personal wishes, Mihoko passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. Kay was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
