ADKINSMAY 24, 1918 - SeptEMBER 5, 2010 ANDERSON, SC ' Mildred Wood Adkins, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born on May 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William Bomer & Vera Bruce Wood of Greer, SC. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Greer High School. After graduating from Lander College in Greenwood, she taught Math in Piedmont, SC. Afterwards, she began working with the South Carolina Department of Social Services where she retired with thirty years of commendable service. Mildred was married to late Captain Henry Grady Adkins who served on the Anderson City Police Department for almost forty years. They were faithful members of Pope Drive Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. She is survived by three sons: Henry Grady Adkins Jr. and wife Marcia of Columbia, SC, Bruce Lee Adkins and wife, Phyllis of Easley, SC, and Samuel Lewis Adkins and wife, Un Joo of Seoul, Korea; a daughter-in-law, Judy Adkins Tillinghast of Easley; SC, two brothers: Lewis Vincent Wood of Stone Mtn., GA, and Billy Bomer Wood of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Dr. Allen Bomer Adkins. The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. The Reverend Dr. Lawrence Webb and the Reverend Mack Tester will conduct the service. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Bruce & Phyllis Adkins, 720 Shefwood Drive, Easley.
