Mildred "Granny" Duncan Bridges, age 101, of 1411 E. Market Street, passed into her Heavenly home on Monday, March 14, 2016, at her residence with her loving family by her side. Born in Pelzer on April 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Gary Duncan and the late Thursie Hayes Duncan. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Cansel Bridges until his death in 1950. Mrs. Bridges was employed for forty-nine years with Riverside Mills. She later worked at George's Drive-In for twenty-eight years. Granny was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Bridges leaves behind a son, Joe Bridges and his wife, Azalee, of Pendleton; three daughters, Julie Church of San Antonio, TX, Mary Hammonds of Anderson and Sara Osborne and her husband, Joe, of Anderson; two grandchildren who were raised in the home, Gail and Mel Bridges; also surviving are twenty-three grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Cansel, Granny was preceded in death by four sons, Landy, Grady, Clyde, and Jimmy Bridges; a daughter, Frances King; three grandchildren, Lois Bridges, Lynn Hammonds and Bryan Free; two brothers, Joe and Lonnie Duncan; and two sisters, Alice Chitwood, and Marie Turner. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mildred Bridges will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
