Mildred Juanita Burton, age 87, of Iva, South Carolina went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 11, 2016, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Born on August 24, 1929, she was one of 7 children born to the late Jesse and Sadie Loftis Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray Wyatt Burton, a daughter, Mildred Irene Burton and a special daughter-in-law, Paula Metz Burton. She was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Faye McCullough, 5 brothers, Paul, Alvin, Lamar, Boyd, and Bobby Smith. Juanita was a life-long resident of Iva, SC where she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family, but she also enjoyed fishing, cooking her "famous" biscuits, and cakes to share with others.On July 21, 1945 she married the love of her life, Ray Wyatt Burton. Together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Sue Burton and her husband Gene, Terry Burton and his wife Julia, Wade "Shorty" Burton and his wife Evelyn, and Emily Cann and her husband Billy; grandchildren, Mark Burton and his wife Jessica, Pattie Burriss and her husband Travis, Paige Sutherland and her husband Chris, Wayne Burton and his wife Leigh, Russell Burton and his wife Deedra, Sommer Smith and her husband Tommy, Jaime Miller and her husband Rhett, Renee Hollifield and her husband Travis, April Ott and her husband Robby; great grand-children, Tori Burton, Taylor, Carlee, and Gracie Burriss, Avery and Emma Grace Burton, Sydney Burton, Kade and Paislee Smith, Evie Ann Milller, Joshua Hollifield and his wife Laura, Zachary Hollifield and his wife Kerrie, Bryson, Raelyn, Jordan and Evan Ott; great-great-grandchildren, Emelyne and Sadie Hollifield; step-great grandchildren Mary Kate and Bradley Powell and Jolie and Jake Kelley Juanita was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church in Iva where she was a faithful servant of the Lord serving in the following ministries: choir member, faithful Sunday School Member, Benevolence committee, Vacation Bible School and the Hostess committee. She, along with her husband Ray, had a passion for the shut-ins of the church and community and she assisted him in organizing the tape ministry and delivered video recordings of weekly services while visiting the shut-ins. She served faithfully in these ministries for over 50 years. Juanita was a wonderful Christian woman that will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and church family. The family would like to send a special thanks to her loved ones, family, caregivers, and friends who have consistently sent cards, made visits, and reached out with a hand of love over the last 6 years. The family will be at the home of her daughter Sue Burton, 142 Rogers Road Abbeville, SC. The Funeral Service will be at Rocky River Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Bobby Jones, Reverend Robby Ott and Reverend Dr. Kirt Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional.
