MILDRED HAWKINS November 27, 1920 - January 17, 2009ANDERSON, SCMrs. Mildred Powell Hawkins, age 88 of Morningside Assisted Living, wife of the late Wilton Hawkins, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Columbia, SC on November 27, 1920 Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late James Edward and Lois Bell Powell. She retired from Wamsutta Mills. She was a member of Orrville United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of church choir and was instrumental in developing the Sunshine Club and served on the Board of Elders. She was a Lioness at the South Anderson Lions Club.Survivors include her daughter, Ellie Wilson of Belton; brothers, Everett Powell of Greenville and Albert Powell of Lynn, MA; sister, Ellie Barnes of Anderson; three grandchildren, Tim Wilson (Regena) of Belton, John Wilson (Lacy) of Belton and Greg Wilson (Amy) of Pendleton and seven great-grandchildren, Corey, Cameron, Carissa, Brittany, Justin and Barrett Wilson and Brandon Vaught.In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, J. E. Powell and Eldridge Powell and sister, Katherine Powell. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral home officiated by the Reverend Faye Stephens and the Reverend Dr. Ron Culbertson. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 19, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at 2501 Trail Road, Belton, SC. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
