IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred Bowen
Smith
November 8, 1929 – February 23, 2024
Mildred Bowen Smith, 94, of Anderson, SC, joined Heaven's choir of angels, Friday, February 23, 2024, at her residence.
Born November 8, 1929, in Clinton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Berry Mell Bowen and the late Winnie Shoemake Bowen. In August 2020, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ulice Garvin "Custard" Smith. She was a faithful member of Belmont Church of God of Prophecy.
Mildred worked in textiles and retired from J.P. Stevens. She was no stranger to hard work. Being one of four girls and three brothers, she learned early on the importance of family, love, laughter, and a strong spirituality. The Bowen family was tightly knitted and to know one was to know them all. Mildred, as well as her family, loved and helped everyone. Kindness, respect, and great faith were prevalent in their lives. Mildred followed the gospel of Christ with a servant's heart. She was a collector of angels, was passionate about gardening and loved working with flowers in her yard. When inside, she worked puzzles and if an opponent was around, she eagerly engaged them in a board game. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, but we know she is wrapped in the loving arms of her Savior. Heaven certainly gained another angel.
She is survived by her precious sister and main caregiver, JoAnn Marett and many nieces and nephews.
After being met by her sweet Lord and Savior, she celebrated with her loved ones gone before; parents, Berry and Winnie Bowen; her husband, Custard Smith; brothers, Amon Bowen, Ernest Bowen and Ezra Bowen; and sisters, Levine Whitworth and Lucille Duckett.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 26, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Belmont Church of God of Prophecy. The funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 am with Rev. Alan Rhodes and Rev. Dale Duckett officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Belmont Church of God of Prophecy or Gentiva Hospice.
