MINNIE CHRISTIAN Minnie Wilma Heerschap Christian, age 86, of 107 Ridgeway Trail, passed away peacefuly at her residence on Sunday, September 22, 2014, with her beloved family by her side. Born in Patterson, NJ, on October 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Heerschap and the late Cornelia Spell Heerschap. Early in life, Mrs. Christian worked for the Manhattan Shirt Company in Patterson, NJ, where she met the very special man of her life, whom she subsequently married. Several years later she was an EMT for Wyckoff, NJ, Volunteer Ambulance Corp, a position she held for 15 years. The family moved to Anderson in 2007 to be near her son and daughter-in-law who worked with the Haven of Rest Ministries. Minnie was very artistic and she enjoyed making silk flower arrangements for weddings. She was a member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church Choir in Hawthorne, NJ, which she enjoyed for approximately 30 years. Upon the family move to Anderson, she became a member of Concord Baptist Church. Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Gene Christian of the residence; a son, Gene P. Christian and his wife, Susan, of Anderson; a sister, Della DeVries and her husband, "Bud", of Midland Park, NJ; 4 grandchildren, Benjamin Christian and his wife, LeAnne, Julia, Evonne, and Kendra Christian. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Minnie Christian will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Don Cox officiating. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Christian may be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries Men's Training Center, PO Box 466, Anderson, SC 29622.
