Minnie Elizabeth Simpson Whitfield, age 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born June 8, 1938, in Walhalla, SC, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Simpson and Ressie Louise Stewart Simpson. She was also preceded in death by her son, Darren Whitfield; brothers, Samuel Simpson, James Simpson, and Donald Simpson; and sisters, Margaret McMahan, Pat Pelfrey, and Ruby Brewer. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Minnie was a woman before her time in so many ways. She was the first female store manager for Winn-Dixie and was excellent at her job. She was a strong and independent woman who loved her family and her friends. She loved flower gardens and hers were the most beautiful you have ever seen. She was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Billy C. Whitfield; daughters, Karen Whitfield and Gena Hodges (Bill); grandchildren Whit Bates (Chasity) and Tyler Bates (Erica); and great grandchildren, Madelynn, Cayden, Colton, Callen, and Harlow Bates.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2024, from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm in the Chapel with Mr. Michael Rippy as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
The family will be at the residence.
