Mary Elizabeth Hall "Mittie" McCallum, age 90, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Wilton Earle Hall and Mary Lightsey Hall. She was educated in the Anderson City schools, Anderson College, and Wesleyan College. She was an officer and former member of the Anderson Junior Assembly. She had served on the Governor's Mansion Commission and was a charter member of the Anderson Woman's Club. She was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for several years.
She was active in the Parent Teacher Association at Concord Elementary School and served as president of their organization for two consecutive years. She was an officer of the South Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers serving as chairman of District 11; State Membership Chairman; first vice-president for three years and also president of the State Congress. She was presented Honorary Membership in the South Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a teacher in Sunday School and active in Presbyterian Women as a Circle Leader, Bible Moderator, and Council Officer. She was the recipient of an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. She was an officer in First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and Elder for several terms.
She was the widow of John Frank McCallum, Jr.
She is survived by a son, John Hall McCallum of Athens, GA; a daughter, Mary Jane McCallum of Greenville,SC; two grandsons, Chase and Reed McCallum; a brother, Wilton E. Hall, Jr.; a sister, Sarah Hall Hayes; and a number of nieces and nephews
The funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Monday, September 19, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
