On April 3, 2017, Mollie Belle Burrell King, age 92, entered into eternal rest at the Lila Doyle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Seneca, South Carolina, with family at her side. Mollie had resided at Lila Doyle since mid-August 2016.
Declining health made necessary the move to Lila Doyle from the beloved family farm, Snow Hill, near Fair Play, South Carolina. Mollie had resided at Snow Hill since 1970 with the love of her life, Charles T. King, a Fair Play native, who preceded Mollie in death on June 11, 2015.
Mollie was born in Pamplin, Virginia on February 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Barney Harrison Burrell and the late Emma Stiles Burrell. While still a child, she moved with her family to Whitehall Farm, King George, Virginia, and met Charles in 1942 at Dahlgren, Virginia where he was stationed briefly pending deployment into the Pacific theater during WW II. Following the war, Mollie accompanied Charles and their family of four boys on moves to many duty stations in Hawaii, Virginia, Maryland, Florida and both northern and southern California, until his retirement from service in 1970. A home maker and extraordinary mother, she also worked outside the home at various occupations.
Mollie is survived by her four sons, Charles T. King, Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Berkeley, California, Ronald H. King of Santa Rosa, California, Robert B. King of Atlanta, Georgia, and James R. King of San Francisco, California; three grandsons, Matthew King and his wife, Sarah, of Oakland, California, Samuel King and his wife, Thea, of Culver City, California, and Benjamin King of Boise, Idaho; three great-grandchildren, Mollie Carroll, Lucy Pearl, and Liam Charles King, all of Oakland, California.
Mrs. King was a devoted member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Fair Play, SC for forty-seven years. A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor her beautiful life will be held at Beaverdam on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Stacey Griffis officiating.
