Mr. Harley H. Christopher, Jr., 84, of Anderson, SC passed away on February 24, 2017 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Harley was the son of the late Harley H. Christopher, Sr., and Josie B. Millwood Christopher, and was born in Pelham, SC on September 1, 1932. Harley proudly served his country in the US Army, ranking as First Lieutenant for two years and served in the US Army reserves for six years. Harley worked for Frank Myers Motors where he retired after 27 years and also worked for SC National Bank for several years. He was a member of the Wofford Glee Club and served as its Business Manager, graduating with a BA in Accounting from Wofford College. Harley was an active member of Concord Baptist Church. He served on every major committee, was a choir member before his health prevented participation in 2012, and was a past Sunday school teacher. He was Charter President of the T.L. Hanna Band Boosters. He also served as a volunteer with AnMed Auxiliary staff after his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Betty Parnell Christopher, Harley is survived by two children: Mark Christopher (Jody) of Columbia, SC and Nancy White (Tim) of Norcross, GA; two step-children, Cathey McClain (Earl) and Sherry Cashion, all of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren: Josh White (Chandinie) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Charles and Elizabeth Christopher of Columbia, SC; 2 step-grandchildren: Kristin Bolt (Joe) of Anderson, SC and Leah Duncan (Chris) of Austin, TX; 5 step great-grandchildren: Jack , Evie, and Alec Bolt of Anderson, SC, Isla Duncan of Austin, TX, and Chloe and Caitlin McClain, both of Gastonia, NC.
In addition to his parents, Harley was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Anne Howard Christopher, stepson-in-law, Chuck Cashion, and grandson, Jeremy White.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Parnell, Rev. Bob Marcaurelle, and Rev. Randy Blank officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Concord Baptist Church Keenagers and friends from The Legacy of Anderson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
