MELBA M. BOWIE September 5, 1921 - February 10, 2013 Melba May Mackie Bowie, age 91, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center surrounded by her loving husband, son and daughter. Born in Amarillo, TX, she was the daughter of the late Robert Mackie and the late Ruby May Mackie. She and her husband, Dr. Carroll W. Bowie, had a wonderful and beautiful life together over a period of 63 years. Mrs. Bowie was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC, and attended Salem College. Over the many years since, Mrs. Bowie has been very active in alumni affairs at Salem. Melba was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church, which was such an important part of her life, and was a member of the Board of Visitors of Kanuga Conferences in Hendersonville, NC. She took great pleasure in assisting Dr. Bowie in learning and doing needlepoint. Together they created the Stations of the Cross in needlepoint, one set of which is on display at Grace Episcopal Church. In addition to her devoted husband, Dr. Carroll W. Bowie of the residence, she is survived by a son, Robert T. Bowie of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Carol Lee Bowie Webber and her husband, Leland, of Concord, MA, and two grandchildren whom she cherished, Ellen Bowie Webber and Robert L. Webber. A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Melba Bowie will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11 AM at the Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Jack Hardaway officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in memory of Mrs. Bowie may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 711 S.
