aNDERSON, SCMs. Elizabeth Ann Gurley, age 82, of 109 Brittania Circle, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.Born in Iva, SC on January 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the late John C. Gurley and Ann Myra Milford Gurley. Ms. Gurley was a graduate of Iva High School, Anderson COllege, Winthrop College, and Ohio State University. Prior to attending Ohio State University for her Masters Degree, she served in the US Air Force. Additionally, she served in the Convent of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. Ms. Gurley was an Educator for 37 years in Columbus, Ohio. SHe was the recipient of numerous teaching awards on the local and state levels in Ohio. She traveled abroad teaching & serving manking. Her generosity, he love of education, and her willingness to help other-particularly children, were some of her best pastimes. She was an avid reader & member of St.Joseph Catholic Church i Anderson.Survivors include onen sister, Lucia G. Atkins of LaGrance, GA; two brothers, Franklin D. Gurley & wife, Barbara C. Gurley, and William Glenn Gurley & wife, Emmie S. Gurley, all of Anderson, SC. She is also survived by seven nephews, 6 nieces 13 great-nephews, 9 great-nieces, one great-great nephew and 2 great-great nieces.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John C. Gurley, JR.A Graveside Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, Oct. 9,2010 at New Silver Brook Cemetery,conducted by the Rev.Dan Batson and Reciard P. Brennan.The family is at their respective homes & will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O.Box 285, Anderson, Sc 29622.
