Msgt. Jackie Lerenzo Blackwell, Retired, age 62, of 128 Charles Reed Road, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC on November 20, 1951, Jackie was the son of Dorothy Thompson Blackwell of Starr and the late James Alvin Blackwell. He was a 1969 graduate of New Deal High School; Tri-County Technical College and Greenville Technical College earning a degree in criminal justice. Jackie proudly served his country in the United States Army retiring after 22 years of service earning the rank of Master Sergeant and being assigned as U.S. Military Diplomat. Following his military career, he retired after 17 years as a Lieutenant from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Including his mother, Jackie is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rose Espelimbergo Blackwell of the home; sons, Keith Blackwell and his wife, Jackie of Duncan, SC, Lateef Blackwell and his wife, Natalie of Greenville, SC and Jamie Blackwell of Starr, SC; ; five grandchildren, Alexis, Amira, Nyhia, Masiyah and Murshid; brothers, Alvin Blackwell of Starr, SC, Anthony and Jerome Blackwell, both of Anderson, SC; sisters, Doris Shabazz and Shirley Fant, both of Starr, SC and his mother-in-law, Liway-way Espelimbergo. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Blackwell. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm. The funeral service with full military honors, will be held at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm officiated by the Reverend Bob Lee. Jackie's wish was to be cremated. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anderson Emergency Kitchen, P.O. BHox 515, Anderson, SC 29622.
