MSgt Sam Apple, Jr., USMC (Ret)

MSgt Sam Apple, Jr. USMC (Ret), age 94, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014, in Pottstown, PA.
Born in Arkansas, on September 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Sam Price Apple, Sr. and the late Julia Howard Apple. Sam retired from the United States Marine Corp after 30 years of service, where he earned the rank of Master Sargeant. He proudly served his country during WWII, Vietnam, and the Korean Conflict. Sam also retired from First Citizens Bank in North Carolina after more than 25 years of service. He was an avid reader and loved his crossword puzzles. Sam was a founding member of Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church, USA, where he had served as a deacon and elder.
He is survived by a daughter, Valerie Hinson (Kenneth Hart), of Pottstown, PA; a sister, Dorothy Barnes, of Hitchcock, TX; two grandchildren, Raegan L. Griscom (Frank), of Wilmington, DE and Matthew S. Hinson, of Pineville, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Paul and Grace Degnars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Joan Apple; two brothers, Gordon and Howard; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth.
The Graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Thursday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dwight Greene officiating.
