Myrtle Lois Hughes Gilbert, age 81, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson, SC on December 25, 1935, she was the daughter of the late B.F. Hughes, Sr., and the late Mable Gilmer Hughes. Myrtle worked as a weaver for Wamsutta Textiles, where she later retired. She loved to read, and watch and listen to Gaither Gospel in her free time. She was a faithful member of Trinity Springs Church of God. She is survived by her son, Roger Gilbert of Anderson; daughter, Cheryl Gilbert of Anderson; brother, B.F. "Jitterbug" Hughes, Jr. and his wife Joyce, of Belton; grandchild, Kyle Gilbert of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Trenton Kyle Gilbert and Ashlyn Hughes Gilbert; and brother-in-law, James Ray Harper of Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gilbert; sisters, Doris Harper and Sara Crawford; and a brother, J.P. Hughes. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend James Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
