Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth Dodson Christopher of Anderson, SC passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Spring Arbor of Anderson.

She was born on October 6, 1935, in Laurens County, SC and was a daughter of the late Ralph Carlton Dodson and the late Laura Elizabeth Burton Dodson. She was also predeceased by two infant sons, Richard Carlton Christopher and James Earle Christopher; brother, William “Billy” Dodson; and sister, Ann Dodson Taylor.

Nancy graduated from Hickory Tavern High School as Valedictorian. During her high school years, she was active in 4-H Club and received the National 4-H Achievement Award. She went on to graduate from Winthrop College with a degree in Home Economics. Nancy began her career in education, teaching home economics in Panama City, Fl. She and her family moved to Anderson where she became an assistant home agent with Clemson Extension Service. She returned to the classroom and began teaching sixth grade at Homeland Park Elementary. She retired from teaching with AnMed Health Center, where she taught nutrition in the nursing program. Nancy was definitely a “teacher”. She could teach any subject and did so with patience and kindness.

She was a faithful member of Central Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. She also taught Sunday School and Bible studies, was a member of Presbyterian Women, moderator of Foothills Presbytery for Presbyterian Women and attended three national General Assemblies representing Foothills Presbytery.

Nancy also faithfully served her community. While her children were at Concord Elementary, she was elected and held the position of PTA president. She was also past president of Anderson Junior Assembly and editor of the most notable legacy of the Junior Assembly the publication of Carolina Cuisine, a widely beloved community cookbook featuring a collection of traditional Southern recipes compiled by the Assembly.

Above all Nancy was an outstanding homemaker. She cultivated a home to care for her family, always giving and showing love. She was a superior hostess and an excellent cook. Her passions included serving a meal to a table full of guests, arranging flowers, or writing in her journal. Nancy was a nurturing person. She cared for others deeply and gave never-ending love and kindness to everyone. Above all of her many talents, she was a wife, mother and grandmother and she will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Richard Goode “Dick” Christopher, III; son, David Earle Christopher (Darby); daughters, Mary Christopher Shevlin (John) and Anna Christopher Johnson (Brian); grandchildren, Adam Christopher, Kara Christopher, Elizabeth Hickey (Andrew), Jack Shevlin (Brooke), Marianna Johnson, Emma Johnson, and Hope Johnson; and great granddaughter, Anderson Hickey.

Following a private family committal service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Michael York and Rev. Allyson Strong will officiate. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
