Nancy Suber Hawthorne, 78, passed away peacefully October 17 with her husband daughter and son-in-law by her side.
A resident of Longmeadow since 2014, Nancy was born March 11, 1940, to Chris and Elizabeth Suber of Anderson, S.C. She was a graduate of The Girls High School and Columbia College. On July 8, 1961, she married Ensign Rowland Oliver Hawthorne, III, U.S. Navy. They moved to Charleston, S.C., where Rowland was stationed.
Nancy worked as a special education teacher in Charleston, S.C., High Point, N.C. and Dallas, Texas. She served for 18 years as the Director of Children's Christian Education as St. John's Episcopal Cathedral in Denver, Colorado.
Nancy was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Society of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of the Independence and the Altar Guild of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Longmeadow. She was an avid cook, traveler and needle pointer, and she will be remembered by family and friends for her warmth and wit.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Rowland; daughter, Anna (Rob); son, Miles (Maria); brother, Chris Suber; and grandchildren, Ellie, Caroline, Lily and Maxwell.
Nancy was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Robbie.
A service of Thanksgiving and Celebration of Life was held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow, Massachusetts on Wednesday, October 24, at 3pm.
