Nellie Mae Davis Atkins, age 96, of Elberton, GA, formerly of Belton, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at the Nancy Hart Nursing Center. Born on May 14, 1920, in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Bartley Frank Davis and the late Julia Mae Harper Davis. For seventy years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the Reverend Jesse Wilson Atkins of Elberton. Nellie was a wonderful Pastor's wife and traveled with her husband to many places all over the county proclaiming the word of God. She was a member of Emmanuel Holiness Church of Starr, SC. In addition to her husband, Jesse, Mrs. Atkins is survived by two brothers, Charles Lindsey Davis of Altamont Springs, FL, and William Earl Davis (Linda) of Homosassa, FL; three sisters, Ruby Skelton of Townville, SC, Mildred Steadman of Anderson, and Betty Brooks (Colonel) of Belton, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by a step-mother, Minnie Davis; two brothers, Robert Davis and Bartley Frank Davis, Jr.; and one sister, Wilma Shoemaker. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Atkins will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Jackie Prickett and Reverend Lee Roy Cannon officiating. Entombment will follow at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
