Nellie Sanders Kern Anderson, SC Nellie Frances Sanders Kern, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Anderson, SC, on December 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edward Berry Sanders and the late Lizzie Etta Williams Sanders. Nellie moved to Baltimore during WWII working as a riveter, and then became employed with Proctor and Gamble, where she retired with over 35 years of service. Nellie enjoyed her time dancing with the Hi Liners with the Jo Brown Senior Center. She was a member of Orrville Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class. She is survived by her nieces, Evonne Parnell and Magdeline Kay; a nephew, Clate M. Sanders; ten great nieces and nephews; and special close friends, Regina Mahaffey and Gary Blake both of West Virginia. Nellie was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, Zona King, Pink, Roy, E.B., Ralph, C. Lee "Mutt", Claude, Grady, and Roscoe Sanders; and her companion for over 35 years, Joe Konicki. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the home of her niece, Evonne Parnell, 125 Avondale Road, Anderson, SC 29621, and will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service, on Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orrville Baptist Church, 2620 South Main Street, Anderson, SC 29624 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
