Nellie Chastain McGuire, 84, of 2851 West Whitner St, departed this world and entered into Heavens gates, surrounded by her loving family, caretaker, Thelma Timms, and her pastor, Reverend Allen Paris and his wife Lottie, on Thursday April 21, 2016. She was the widow of Neal C. McGuire and the daughter of the late Julius and Pearl Chastain. Nellie was the Valedictorian of her graduating class, White Plains High School, Pelzer, SC. During her career, she was the owner and operator of McGuire's Grocery for more than 33 years. She loved the outdoors, singing, and her church. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she sang regularly. Nellie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Cheryl McGuire Hudgens, (Dan), Joyce McGuire-Wingard, Brad McGuire, (Shana) and Beth McGuire; sister, Connie Gilliard; ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Paul Chastain; four sisters, Arie Gaines, Ethel Lesley, Mabel Watson, and Grace Fields; and three grandchildren, Douglas and Jennifer Shiflet, and Danny Mock. The Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Allen Paris and Reverend John Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Kendra Vaughn, 304 Strawberry Lane, Anderson, SC 29625, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC, 29621.
