Nezzie Chitwood Bowen, age 91, of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022, at Rainey Hospice House. Born July 4, 1930, in Gillsville, GA, she was a daughter of the late Sandy Monroe Chitwood and Mary Allen Chitwood. She was married for 58 years to James E. Bowen, Sr. until his death in 2012. She was a devoted member of Centerville Church of God. She is survived by her son, James E. Bowen, Jr. (Jill) of Anderson, SC; daughters, Beth Penland (Troy) of Townville, SC, Wanda Latham (Bruce) of Greenville, SC, and Susan J. Bowen of Anderson, SC; sisters, Gladys Clow of Olney, IL, and Mary Etta Carnes of Carnesville, GA; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621. The family will be at their respective homes.
