Nita Alewine Acker Nita Alewine Acker, beloved wife of William D. (Bill) Acker passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents M.B. Alewine and Ellen McGill Alewine and her brother Wallace Alewine. Besides her husband Bill, she leaves three sons and one daughter: David M. Acker, William L. Acker, Allan R. Acker, and Jill Acker Sharrett, plus five grandchildren: Nicholas Sharrett, Nathan Sharrett, Sarah Grace Acker, Rachel Beth Acker, and Luke Acker. Nita was born and raised in Iva, SC, attended Anderson College and worked for Deering Milliken Research until she and Bill were married in Iva on July 11th, 1961. Bill's job assignments took them to Anderson, SC, Toledo, Ohio and Shelby, NC. They raised their family in Toledo and enjoyed a full life with friends and activities through Monroe Street United Methodist Church where Nita worked as church secretary. Nita and Bill are currently members of Central Methodist Church in Shelby. Nita was an excellent cook with an extensive collection of recipes. A favorite hobby was gardening -- she enjoyed planting flowers and shrubs to brighten up her house and yard. Family picnics and trips to the mountains were frequent weekend activities in summer. The family would like to extend special thanks to dear friends at Hospice and Gentiva for their love and care during Nita's illness. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church, Iva, SC with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at Iva City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County (951 Wendover Height Drive, Shelby, NC 28150).
