Norma Jean Thompson Goldman, age 90, of Seneca, SC, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021, at Belvedere Commons Assisted Living.
She was born July 21, 1930 in Oakland City, IN, and was the daughter of the late William Shelby Thompson and Mildred Lapsley Thompson. She was married for 65 years to her high school sweetheart, William H. "Bill" Goldman until his death in August 2015.
Norma was a 1948 graduate of Oakland City High School and a 1972 graduate of Columbia College earning her degree in Education. Norma and her husband lived in Indiana for many years before moving to Columbia, SC where she was a founding member of the St. Andrews Women's Club and was on the original Board of Directors for the Riverbanks Zoo. During that time, she was a member of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as the children's choir director. In 1972, they moved to the Anderson, SC area. Norma became the first kindergarten teacher at Starr Elementary where she remained teaching until her retirement. Following retirement, she and her husband spent many years traveling around the world and enjoying time with family. She was a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Stan Goldman (Mary) of Charlotte, NC, Jon Goldman (Larry Bohannon) of Spruce Pine, NC, and Jim Goldman (Kimberly) of Seneca, SC; daughter, Lesa Goldman (Laurie) of Livonia, MI; grandchildren, Christopher Skulkety, Jessica Gray, Hannah Goldman, Adia Coleman, and Lydia Coleman.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Thompson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021, at 3:00 pm at Iva City Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
