Norma Jean McCoy Waters, age 89, of Starr, SC, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at NHC Healthcare Anderson.
Born February 17, 1937, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Coleridge McCoy and Ethel Robinson McCoy. She was married for 73 years to Ray Vernon Waters until his death in 2025. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Stewart; sister, Cora Lois Metz; and brother, Bill Robinson.
Norma worked in the textile industry for the entirety of her career. She worked for Rocky River Mill in Calhoun Falls and retired from Mayfair Mills in Starr. She was a devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church and participated in all events hosted at the church. She was also a volunteer delivering meals in the Starr and Iva area for Meals on Wheels. Norma's favorite hobby was gardening and she enjoyed baking delicious, sweet treats. She loved to spend time with her loved ones, pontooning on the lake, and fishing. She was also very supportive of her family's activities, attending as many events as possible. Norma will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Waters Stewart; brothers, Melvin "Hank" McCoy (Judy) and Errol McCoy (Carolyn Sue); grandchildren, Jason Stewart (Angela) and Teresa Kinert (Chris); and great grandchildren, Callie Kinert and Ada Lee Waters Stewart.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Todd Leach officiating. The family will speak with guests immediately following the service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to The Garden House, Crescent Hospice, NHC Healthcare Anderson, and Caris Hospice for the exceptional care of Mrs. Waters.
