Ola Mae Hamby Chasteen, age 86, of Simpsonville, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016, at her residence with her family by her side. Born in Pendleton, SC on January 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William Monroe Hamby and the late Mary Elizabeth Hackett Hamby. She was a graduate of McDuffie High School. Mrs. Chasteen served as a nursery attendant at the Montessori School of Anderson, and was a member of Trinity Springs Church of God. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late William Perry Chasteen to whom she was married for thirty-one years until his death in 1979. Survivors include a son, William Michael Chasteen and his wife, Sandra, of Simpsonville; a daughter, Carol Jean Chasteen Thompson and her husband, Jim, of Greenville; a sister, Susan M. Lowe of Wilmington, NC; two grandsons, Michael D. Chasteen of Greenville and D. Scott Chasteen of Simpsonville. Mrs. Chasteen is also survived by special friends, Mary Ann Barnes, Billie Jo Barnes, and Bart Foster. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Chasteen was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth W. Barefoot, Betty H. Cobb, Linda H. Martin, and Marie Hamby. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ola Mae Chasteen will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016, at 11 AM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. James Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, January 10, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Chasteen may be made to Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S.
