Helms and Zella Mae Duckworth Helms. He was a retired mechanical engineer and a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church in Iva.Survivors include his children: Willene Herring of Concord, NC, James Helms and wife, Ethel Helms of Concord, NC, Brenda Morgan and husband, Wayne Morgan of Iva, SC, Neil Gable and wife, Barbara Gable of Belton, SC, and Jewel Jerrell and husband, Eric Jerrell of Mt. Airy, NC; stepdaughter, Juanita Madden of Hartwell, GA; brother, Harold Helms of Bakersville, CA; and sister, Dorothy Rabon of Kannapolis, NC; sister-in-law, Flora Elrod of Liberty, SC; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and twenty-one great great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by former spouses: Martha Compton Helms and Christine Heaton Helms; and children: Olin David Helms, Furman Gable, Garnet Gable, & Kay James; and brothers: Burdette Helms & Wallace Helms.The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, January 12, 2009, at Good Hope Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Reverend Annette Graham and the Reverend Richard Roberts. Interment will follow in the Iva City Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm on Monday at the Church.The family is at the home of Wayne & Brenda Morgan, 155 A Frame Road, Iva.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Good Hope Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 396, Iva, SC 29655.THE McDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
