Olin D. Roland Anderson, SC Olin Dewhitt Roland, age 79, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, suddenly after several years of illness at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Anderson, SC, on October 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Howard F. Roland and Stella Hawkins Roland. He was a graduate of Boy's High and Tri County Technical College. Olin proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1955 aboard the ships USS Suisun and USS Badoeng Strait. As a third class Petty Officer, Radio Operator, he faithfully kept in touch with his shipmates. He loved to garden, hunt, fish, travel and was loved by all of his friends and family. Olin never met a stranger. He was a lifetime member of BPOE #1206 Elks, a member of Hejaz Shriners, in Mauldin, SC, Master Mason and life member of Ruff Lodge No. 240 AF & AM, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 14. He retired from the Singer Company as a Manufacturing Engineer after 38 years of service. He was of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by the love of his life, his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Roland; a nephew, Keith Smith and his wife, Brenda of Anderson, SC; and special friends, Terry and Linda Sentell of Anderson, SC. The Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Keith Smith and Reverend Terry Bailey officiating. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday.
