Her father was a Civil War veteran, making Mrs. Simms one of the last surviving children of a Civil War veteran in the State of South Carolina. She retired from Abney Mills as a winder, and was a member of Toxaway United Methodist Church and a former member of the Good Neighbor Club. She is survived by her son, Barron Robert Simms of Batesburg, SC, and her daughter, Jane A. Simms of Anderson; grandsons, Russell Lee Simms and his wife Carol of Anderson and David Robert Simms and his wife, Faye and their children, Cole Simms and Tyler Simms, of Lexington.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Marie Simms; brothers, David, Benjamin, and Fred Covington and sisters, Myrtle Hooker and Neva Edwards.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend Kurt Stutler. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
