ROY PAYNE January 23, 1919 - August 22, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. Omer Roy Payne, age 88, of 225 Hillman Drive, Anderson, SC, husband of the late Willie Ruth Freeman Payne, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Hartwell, GA on January 23, 1919, Mr. Payne was a son of the late John Thomas Payne and Ellen Pearl Haley Payne. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas with over 30 years of service. He was a United States Navy World War II veteran having served in the South Pacific on the LCI-625. Mr. Payne will be joining his many shipmates that have gone on before him. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Hilda Jo Charping and Myra Ellen Hoffman, both of Anderson; one sister, Tommie 'Boots' Fowler of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Chuck Payne, Crystal Culbertson and John Charping and three great-grandsons, Will Miles, Garrison Bowen and David Charping. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son William Thomas Payne; a grandson, Arthur C. Charping III, four brothers, Joe, Ludie, Jack and Carl Payne; two sisters, Frances Payne and Ruby Gray. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 9:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Lloyd Robison officiating. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 24 2007 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at their respective homes.Flowers are optional.
