Ida Oneita Elrod Yates Richey, age 91, of Anderson, went to be with her Lord and Savior upon her death on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Brookdale of Anderson. She died peacefully and was surrounded by her family. Born on February 15, 1925, in the Piercetown Community of Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late John Mason Elrod and the late Eula Ellenburg Elrod. Mrs. Richey was twice married, first to the late Walter Eugene Yates, and then to the late Edward Richey. Following her graduation from High School, Mrs. Richey was employed in the banking industry where she retired as bank manager after twenty-eight years. Nita was a faithful and devoted member of Eureka Baptist Church for over fifty years. In her spare time, Nita was an avid gardener and enjoyed walking in the outdoors. Mrs. Richey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a nephew, Ray Smith of Piedmont; six great-nephews, Joseph Edward Collins, Jr., Wendell, Myron, Ricky, and Donnie Bagwell, all of Piedmont and Steven Leslie also of Piedmont. In addition to her parents and her husbands, Oneita was preceded in death by four sisters, Thelma Smith, JoAnn Collins, Louise Cater, and Frances M. Elrod, two brothers, Jay and Wayne Elrod, and a nephew, Joseph E. Collins, Sr. The family will be at the home of Joseph E. Collins, Jr., 199 Collins Road, Piedmont, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, November 28, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Richey will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek and the Reverend Dr. T. Jason Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
