OSCAR L. PHILLIPS February 12, 1930 - September 27, 2012 IVA, SC Oscar Lee "Sug" Phillips, Jr., age 82, of Iva, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood. Born in Creamerton, NC, he was the son of the late Oscar Lee Phillips, Sr. and the late Grace Ruth Starnes Phillips. He grew up in Spartanburg, SC, and later joined the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. While serving in Korea, he was the recipient of the Korean Service Ribbon with three bronze stars. He worked for many years with several major construction companies, serving as an electrical superintendent. After retiring, he and his wife moved to the Lake Succession area and were members of Carswell Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Berry Phillips of the home; sons, Ronnie Phillips and his wife Debbie of Iva, Steve Phillips and his wife, Susan of Watkinsville, GA and Reverend John Phillips and his wife Janet of Anderson; a daughter, Karen Jinks and her husband Anthony of Anderson; a sister, Helen Blackwell of Boiling Springs; and nine grandchildren, Chris Phillips, Crystal Keown, Reverend Cole Phillips, Michael Phillips, Kayla Lollis, Matthew Elrod, Stephanie Phillips, Andrew Elrod and Brittaney Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Laney Lollis, Luke, Gage, and Easton Elrod, and Ellory Keown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Ragsdale. The Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Carswell Baptist Church with Dr. Carroll Plemmons, Reverend John Phillips and Reverend Cole Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will be at residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted.
